What is The Substance
Abuse?
What is Substance Abuse and why is it a problem?
It’s important to know that there are many types of substance
abuse as well as several types of substances. The main types of addictions are
Cannabis, Alcohol and Tobacco. Each type of addiction has its own different
effects on your life depending on the type of addiction you have chosen.
Cannabis
Cannabis is a form of cannabis which is used by some people to
get high. It can produce different results than others such as hallucinations,
paranoia and depression. They are also known to make life harder for their
patients who have this disorder as they may not be able to maintain a healthy
diet and exercise routine. With all these physical problems from smoking, they
could experience a lot of stress. Also with anxiety and depression, smoking
weed can cause depression and other mental distress to these patients. This
sort of treatment can not give you results in any way but only makes it easier
for them to quit for good.
Alcoholics
Alcoholism is an addiction which comes under the category of
drug addiction. There are several types of alcoholics namely Binge drinkers or
even those who drink excessively without knowing it; Over drinkers; Moderate
drinkers; Severe drinkers or heavy drinkers. These sorts of addicts drink
alcohol at frequent intervals, sometimes drinking more than 2-3 times a week,
and are usually found when they start to lose contact with the person who
drinks alcohol. So there is no doubt that they are heavy drinkers. They are
usually in the age bracket of 25-40 years old. It’s important that if you are
thinking about starting alcohol you should take medicines to control your drinking.
There are some health issues associated with consuming alcohol.
For instance, it will cause cancer in the body. When it comes to cigarettes the
lung is still affected as they are mostly inhaled through the mouth. But if
someone smokes cigars, cigarette smoke affects their lungs and blood pressure.
Smoking causes inflammation. Also if smokers drink too much nicotine they can
weaken their immune systems making these people vulnerable to infections such as AIDS
and stroke.
Tobacco use
Smokers can experience various types of cancers and heart
disease and respiratory problems such as COPD and asthma. Studies show that
tobacco use leads to an increase in death rates due to lung-related illnesses.
In addition, they have a high chance of getting heart and brain diseases. Those
tobacco users with lung-related disorders, cancer and breathing disorders were
twice as likely to die at home than compared to other smokers. As compared to
regular smokers who never smoked before, those who had ever smoked before
experienced nearly half the risk of dying due to lung-related diseases. Smokers
are 3 -4 times more likely to die due to their illness than non-smokers.
What does it mean if I try to stop smoking?
Stop smoking. Stop smoking. Not stopping smoking is hard work.
You must keep up with treatment and therapy to quit smoking. After quitting
smoking for good, it’s time to change your life. And changing your life takes
work and time. People don’t quit smoking completely. Some end up going back due
to things like using tobacco or drinking alcohol too much. That doesn’t mean
you should stop smoking or drinking alcohol. But what will do and how will you do
it? Here’s everything you need to know.
1 Don’t go back until you quit smoking and drinking alcohol. If you
are using both cigarettes and alcohol, stop them during each period. Do it one
month at a time. Once you use most of the drugs and reach a point where nothing
else can help you quit smoking and drink alcohol, try going back to smoking
because the craving will always be there.
2 Start with small amounts. Smoking should start off slowly. One
cigarette a day is great but you should try smoking less often. Use less than
5 daily smoking sessions per month. Remember it takes practice to quit. Your
tolerance is what makes smoking addictive. It will feel good and it will feel
so relaxing but that won’t last forever. You need to build up yourself again.
By giving yourself little breaks from smoking, you are building an effort to
quit smoking yourself. You go ahead and give yourself a break as much as
possible. Have fun with relaxation techniques; music and meditation sessions as
well as yoga sessions. They help you focus better. Try practising mindfulness
for 10 minutes every morning for a few days. Practice gratitude. Practice
gratitude with gratitude journaling. Write down 3 times each day to express
gratitude to God and others for everything that can make you happy.
3 Give Yourself something to look forward to every day. Keep a
goal journal or a gratitude journal, anything that helps you remember the good
in life. Never allow yourself to look back on past events. Avoid looking back
at the bad. Set aside two hours a day to spend time with friends, do something
with your family and enjoy life as it was meant to be and let that be your
priority. Take breaks, enjoy going out and just hang out with your family or
friends. Don’t take anything away from anyone else. Instead of spending time
with others, try focusing on yourself a little more.
4 Make the best out of the situation. It will take time to
realize the severity of your condition. We all need a change. Let yourself feel
better and set new goals which you can pursue after achieving your objectives.
Be ready for the struggle. Every setback you pass through will help you pick
yourself up, stronger.
5 Find support from your loved ones or family members who care
about you. Stay strong to stay motivated. Love yourself unconditionally. Learn
to think positively.
6 Talk with other addicts and see what works and what doesn’t
for your recovery. Remind yourself that being conscious never helps anyone.
Many people who suffer from addictions will say the same thing to others or
other addicts. Always talk with others who have similar problems. Know that
it’s okay to ask for help! No one is going to leave you alone when you are there
and they are available anytime.
7 Stick to simple rules and follow them strictly. Simple rules
will help you quit smoking once and for all. The first step to quitting
smoking is putting yourself through some self-care. A healthy nutrition plan
and an exercise plan are two major components.
8 Speak up about your concerns and share them with other addicts.
Seek assistance and seek advice from others who are suffering. Always keep
yourself updated with new research and studies related to your condition.
9 Prevent relapse. Relapse is the second biggest reason why
people fail to quit smoking. Avoid relapse.
10 Get professional support. Professional support is the key to
success. Reach out to a specialist. Professionals offer help and advice and help
in overcoming any difficulty to quit smoking and drinking. Visit rehabilitation
centres or counselling services offered. Follow your doctor’s orders and ensure
that you don’t drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes due to the fact that smoking
and drinking alcohol are unhealthy and unhealthy for you.
It sounds complicated but it’s almost too difficult
So here is what we got from all the above points. All of these things will help you quit smoking and drinking alcohol if you are willing to put in enough effort and work hard enough to do so. Don’t wait until you are diagnosed with a particular syndrome to quit smoking. Quit smoking and drinking alcohol gradually and when it starts working you make it stop. Understand that you may have to face some ups and downs during quitting smoking and drinking however you need to stick to good habits and avoid negative thoughts and beliefs that might lead to regretting stopping smoking and drinking.
